Founder and Senior Trial Coach

Mike Liffrig is a 1985 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He began his career as an insurance defense lawyer, later becoming an endorsed candidate for the United States Senate, a plaintiff personal injury attorney, a prosecutor, a mediator, and a trial coach.

By 2019, Mike was moving to the plaintiff side: his lawyers won a jury verdict for $1.3 billion in conservative Bismarck, North Dakota.  Since that stunning verdict, Mike has taken particular joy in multiplying the value of verdicts for negligence survivors across the United States.

Philosophically and practically, Mike believes in the transformative power of making great mistakes. Great mistakes sharpen us in a way that success never can. Mistakes open us up to the opinions and experiences of other people. Mistakes can make human beings stronger and more reliable. Great mistakes bring out the best in our humanity.

The power of great mistakes has been woven into the fabric of Grand Slam Verdicts through the offer of unlimited Jury Research on selected cases. In such cases, our attorneys typically enjoy five or more rounds of research on the same case. Why? Mike wants his lawyers to get out on the cutting edge, push themselves, make Great Mistakes, and learn from them - all in an environment where clients cannot be harmed. All with the goal of maximizing the financial recovery for survivors of negligence. And becoming lawyers who are too good in front of a jury for the insurance companies to mess with.

Mike is at that comfortable stage of life where he has less anxiety over cash flow and can focus on the relationship with his attorney clients. For example, after the first or second round of research, Mike likes to ask clients if they would like to access our preferred online dietitian to learn how to prevent brain fog at trial and how to eliminate chronic diseases caused by inflammatory foods. Good stuff!

Mike’s focus on relationships dramatically increases the enjoyment of doing this work - it is WAY more fun to work with friends than with strangers. A relationship of personal trust also allows Mike’s theater coaches to help our lawyers tell their story to the jury with real power and become more authentic with every focus group and public trial we undertake together.

On the personal side, Mike is the father of nine adult children. He and his wife Julie raised their family on the windswept prairie of western North Dakota. The family ranch taught all the Liffrig kids that hard work is sacred and that manual labor has its own sweet dignity.
